NHSF - A Vision In Action
Although fourteen years ago,
Hindu students were just as successful in education as now, there was a general
lack of representation for Hindu students at campus level. From its beginnings
as a small Freshers' Fayre stall, National Hindu Students Forum has worked to
build one of the most active networks of Hindu Youth in the UK. NHSF (UK)
exists to protect, preserve, practice and promote Hindu Dharma amongst the Hindu
student population.
Local branches at over 30 institutions of higher
education across the UK form the core unit of NHSF. Our local level activities
encompass cultural, educational and social aspects: from informal gatherings to
formal events. Hindu students come together to learn more about their
community, their culture and themselves.
At a national level we issue a
number of publications, such as our termly magazine, HUM, and various
educational leaflets. We also organise national events such as the Khel
Competition where university teams battle it out on the sports pitch, and the
Annual Conference where Hindu Youth from around the country gather to share
ideas on issues affecting us in Britain today. NHSF works to inspire Hindu
students to develop views and opinions, and to express them effectively.
Representing over 10,000 Hindu Youth, NHSF is the largest Hindu student
movement in Europe and aspires to build the foundations for a strong and vibrant
Hindu community by establishing a youth orientated proactive agenda.
