The 27th October 2011 was an auspicious day for many Hindus as it marked the beginning of a new year, and with this came the launch of the much anticipated Hindu Lawyers Association (HLA). The event took place at the stunning offices of CMS Cameron McKenna in London, and opened with a Ganesh pooja performed by Milen Shah of Chinmaya Mission (UK), which provided the perfect foundation for this associations launch event.

After a welcoming speech by the president of the National Hindu Students’ Forum (UK), the driving force behind the HLA, Judge Sujata Sharma, tantalised the audience by relaying her story on the challenges she faced en route to becoming a judge, and how the existence of the HLA will enable others to achieve their dreams the same way that she has. Thus was followed a lecture from Dhruv Chhatralia, chair of CMS Cameron McKenna Hindu’s Network. His inspiring speech helped shed light on applying Hindu Dharma to modern living.

The event finished off with an informative talk by patron of the HLA Pramod Joshi of 1 Essex Court, who spoke eloquently about the constitution and aims of the HLA.

The event was attended by over 50 legal professionals consisting of both practicing lawyers and students. After the closing speeches, the refreshment supplied by CMS Cameron McKenna provided the perfect opportunity for mingling and encouraging individuals to get involved with HLA.

The night ended with much anticipation as to what the future will hold for the HLA.
