“Shared Heritage,” the theme of Defence Hindu Network’s Diwali event, was a theme that was felt strongly throughout the evening of celebration. NHSF(UK) was invited as guests to attend this event at Portsmouth Dockyard aboard the HMS Warrior.

The event began with a networking opportunity between guests, ranging from members of the Armed Forces, Ministry of Defence and other Hindu organisations. This was followed by an aarti, with advisory board member, JanhaviJi Dadarkar and our Vistarika, Nikita Trivedi being invited to take part. Afterwards, the Royal Marine Band Portsmouth, gave us a spectacular performance, blending both Western and South Asian music. We were then treated to a fireworks display before boarding the boat for dinner.

On board the HMS Warrior, the Bollywood Brass Band played more songs from various Bollywood films spanning across the decades. There was further opportunity to network during dinner, we were surrounded by so many welcoming people, both guests and the organising committee.

We were incredibly honoured to have the privilege of attending the celebration of Diwali, shared heritage and diversity and look forward to further engagements with the Defence Hindu Network.
