Their mission is to reach out to 5 million children by 2020.

The surest way to break out of the cycle of poverty is through education. Education can significantly improve the quality of life of a family for generations to come. When the basic needs of a child, such as food are not met, education often becomes the last priority.

Present in the audience were dedicated donors of the charity, executive members of the organisation and various special guests who travelled many miles to show their support. The chief guest on the night was C.B.Patel (CEO of Asian Voice, Gujurat Samachar).

Throughout the night it was evident that The Akshaya Patra Foundation is fully committed to helping underprivileged children by providing them with a healthy, balanced meal that they would otherwise have to work for and it is also helping them to break “the poverty cycle”. The charity currently delivers its 1.3million meals daily from 8 large-scale kitchens located in various parts across India. The meal is an incentive for the children to attend school. Since the children attend school, they are educated and as a result, the poverty cycle is broken. In essence, it helps reduce the dropout rate to an enormous extent and increases classroom attendance.

Addressing the audience, The Chairman & Managing Director, Mr Chamaria mentioned that, “when you educate a boy, you educate a person but when you educate a girl, you educate an entire family.”

In his closing remarks, the chief guest Mr. C.B.Patel asked delegates to do two things “firstly give something to the underprivileged because it is our responsibility to do so and secondly tell your friends and family about The Akshaya Patra Foundation”.
