{"id":1435,"date":"2013-06-28T05:34:15","date_gmt":"2013-06-28T05:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nhsf.org.uk\/2013\/06\/north-india-floods-disaster-appeal\/"},"modified":"2020-07-16T10:26:08","modified_gmt":"2020-07-16T09:26:08","slug":"north-india-floods-disaster-appeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nhsf.org.uk\/?p=1435","title":{"rendered":"North India Floods Disaster Appeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Himanshi Patel<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Sewa Team Co-ordinator<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The rains came in Uttarakhand in Northern India on Friday 14<sup>th<\/sup> June and by Sunday it was official that Uttarakhand was in the grips of the worst flood in hundred years.<\/p>\n<p>The flooding has washed away at least 1307 roads, nearly 147 bridges and 1751 houses have been damaged- and the figures are still rising.<\/p>\n<p>The government of Uttarakhand has announced the official death toll at 550. Rakesh Sharma, a state official said the total number of deaths could soar to several thousands.<\/p>\n<p>Sewa UK has thousands of grass root workers through sister organisations in India. Work has already commenced for providing free food, medical facilities and shelter to those affected.
