This year was a landmark for our sports completion, not only was it the 10th anniversary, but we had a record 128 teams competing in Badminton, Football, Kabbadi, Kho-Kho and Netball from 34 of our affiliated Hindu societies from across the UK.

The day displayed impressive sporting capabilities that Hindu students in the UK possess. The sporting talent wasn’t the only activity for athletes and spectators to partake in. Our National Learning Team featured prominently on the day by encouraging students to engage with Hindu Dharma through various activities, discussions and publications such as our bi-annual Hum magazine. They promoted a number of upcoming NHSF (UK) Bhakti events including NHSF Huddersfield’s Mahashivratri Puja, Central Zone’s 108 Hanuman Chalisa at the Laxminarayan Mandir in Birmingham on 1st March and the final event a Krishna Kirtan at Ilford Mandir on Saturday 8th March.

Sewa or selfless service is an integral part to all activities we do. We continued our long standing support for Anthony Nolan, the charity which aims to raise awareness of blood cancer and blood disorders. This is increasingly important for the Asian community where there is only a four percent chance of finding a bone marrow match. We actively encourage all attendees to find out more about why it is imperative for Asians to register, and also provide the services for people to register through a simple spit test. Other Sewa initiatives on the day included activities finding out what love means to students and using questionnaires to raise awareness on domestic abuse. It was also the weekend before our Annual Sewa week, the National Sewa Team were on hand to discuss potential initiatives our members could get involved with in addition to their activities.

NHSF (UK) would like to congratulate the winners of the day:After an enlivening 121 matches played, the winners are:
Football- NHSF Aston
Netball- NHSF Warwick
Kho-Kho- NHSF Manchester
Badminton- NHSF University of East Anglia
Kabbadi- NHSF Manchester

NHSF (UK) would like to congratulate all students who participated in the games and the spectators who cheered home their teams.
