On an auspicious Saturday morning, the students of NHSF Bristol, UWE, Exeter, Swansea and Cardiff, along with members of the local community, united together for Hanumanji on Tour 2016.<\/p>\n
\nThe Hanuman Chalisa bestows the fourfold fruits of life: Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. We recited the Hindu devotional hymn twenty-one times creating an ambience of tranquillity.<\/p>\n
Written by the 16th-century poet, Tulsidas, the Hanuman Chalisa illustrates the story of Lord Hanuman\u2019s valour and divine qualities, whilst accompanying Lord Shri Rama on his search for Sita. The 40 verses represent the number of days Tulsidas was imprisoned for. Alongside being a sacred text of devotion and bhakti, the Hanuman Chalisa serves as a guide for showing devotees how to live a virtuous life. It highlights the importance of living a balanced life with faith, sewa (selfless act towards the less fortunate), courage and wisdom. We got the opportunity to understand the teachings of the Hanuman Chalisa through the learning activity organised by NHSF Exeter.<\/p>\n
The day concluded with a heart-warming Sewa activity, which involved writing personalised letters to terminally ill children in attempt to put a smile on their faces. Being familiar about their likes, dislikes and hobbies allowed us to empathise with their lives. It was an enjoyable way to relive moments of childhood whilst carrying out a good deed. Upon reflection, the activity made us realise how much we take for granted. It highlighted how little acts of kindness can go a very long way.<\/p>\n
