On this day National Committee gathered to reflect on the past year and how we can grow in the coming year. Each team presented and discussed a project of their choice and questions were put forward to them by other National Committee members. Advisory Board proudly presented the new national volunteers, the graduates and those joining the National Committee.

It can be said this wasn’t the normal Annual General Meeting, NHSF (UK) usually holds. In the past, the style of the event has been more elegant and formal. The National Events team this year decided to change the format and have more discussion and planning involved. Using feedback from National Committee and Alumni members they created an event which was fun, engaging and thought-provoking. They added in more time to plan and provide better handovers to teams so they were equipped for the year ahead.

It truly has been a fantastic year for our chapters. Many of them have push boundaries and got involved with the samaj. Chapters such as De Montfort University held a Sewa Day at BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir Leicester, Manchester served the homeless for Sewa Day, Queen Mary held a Ganesh puja at their mandir and invited all London Zone chapters and Reading served bhojan to the local community. Throughout the year the iconic Diwali balls, shows, learning events and sports games brought students together.

At the start of the year, another June Committees’ Day took place at Kingston University London, where 68 committee members attended. New chapter committee members once again learnt about their role and understanding our vision. When September came around our Campus team decided to change the September Committees’ Day event to two zonal events. North Zone and Central Zone met at University of Liverpool and London and South Zone came together at Brunel University. Students learnt about key leadership skills which will not only help them run a successful society but help them in their futures.

This past year knowledgeable speakers such as Acharya Vidyabhaskar, and Dr Kit Patrick delivered talks across all zones. Acharya Vidyabhaskar focused on Dharma and happiness, whilst Dr Kit Patrick spoke profoundly on Tales of an Indian Tradesman. In mid-February, the National Sports Competition took place at Tipton Sports Academy and brought 650 students together to play a range of different sports. This year we saw the Armed Forces support the event and play with students. In the latter part of the year, each zone held Jai Hanuman events at different mandirs and explored the four yogas more to engage students.

Overall as we come to the end of the year we thank those who have served and been long standing members on National Committee. The time and effort these members put into the organisation are always valued. The long standing members have dedicated themselves to the Hindu samaj and will go on serve in other organisations and be role models and ambassadors of Hindu faith. We move into a new year, with ambition and drive to make 2018 – 2019 a successful one.

— Jaimal Patel, NHSF (UK) National Volunteer

Annual General Meeting 2018 The NHSF (UK) year of 2017 – 2018 came to an end on Saturday 17th March 2018 at Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Stanmore.
