Say it…go on…now say it with a bit of gusto! Thats more like it, sounds a lot fancier than Legal/Finance/Events team right? But do you know what Sewa is? I hear a few mumbles and grumbles so we’ll just tell you, Sewa is essentially selfless service which can be defined as “any physical act performed for and resulting in the gain of others.”
When you said it didn’t it feel powerful, maybe even a bit heroic (like captain planet) like there should be tights, capes and maybe even masks adorned to be a part of this team. Well sadly we don’t wear capes as much as we would love to and no we aren’t some sort of superhero team but one of those items we kind of “wear” are masks.
What?…Masks you say? Why? Are your faces that scary you ask…
Nope, well we hope not but the main reason we say we “wear” masks is that true Sewa is faceless whereby you don’t go round wearing a badge saying I’M AMAZING BECAUSE I VOLUNTEER. Instead when true Sewa is preformed you simply enjoy the fact that others are benefitting from your actions without looking for any praise, adulation or awards.
Now it is true to say it is the chapters that do most of our work for us but we as the Sewa Team try to encourage Sewa to be performed as much as possible throughout the year, at all National and Zonal events as well as making Sewa more accessible to all chapters. We also conduct the vote for our National Charity which we aid for three years both financially and with man power through sending volunteers and spreading awareness of the charity.
We also ensure there are links with many other charities and organisations both in the UK and abroad who we can aid and promote whilst promoting chapters to work with a local charity to build a sense of community.
