That time of the year is fast approaching where NHSF (UK) committees of the 2013-2014 are preparing to embark on their journey with their respective chapters. This year is no doubt going to bring about the best possible experience and insight into the beautiful and vibrant world of Hindu Dharma for NHSF (UK) members and the wider university population alike.
As a chapter committee member from the year gone I can assure you that the journey is not without its obstacles. However, collectively, the joy and pride that will be attained when these hurdles are passed are impossible to describe accompanied by the experience, memories and life long friendships that you will make. September Committees’ Day (SCD), as it did for me, will provide you the platform to develop yourself individually and as a team.
On the National Committee, we know how dedicated chapter committee members are in making the year ahead special. The drive that was already evident during June Committees’ Day is incredibly inspiring and we want to help channel that commitment further to deliver practical outcomes.
Some people reading this may wonder what makes this event different from JCD? From personal experience SCD has a strong focus on developing and enhancing skills that can be practically used, not only during your time on chapter committee, but as life skills. Our objective is to allow chapter committees to unearth qualities that they may not have been realised.
The event will see guest speakers with first hand experience as past chapter committee members. These are people who have ‘been there and done it’ and can reflect upon what works and how to improve on already existing methods of working to make committee experience efficient, effective and (most importantly) enjoyable. Workshops will range from public speaking and project management to how to hold an reinvigorating fresher’s fair. There is something for everyone whether it is to improve a personal skill or an essential aspect of the role undertaken.
SCD brings together 45 affiliated NHSF (UK) societies across the UK, providing an excellent opportunity to network with likeminded people and external organisations. This is a brilliant opportunity to share ideas but most importantly, it provides the chance to meet new people and work together, as one huge NHSF family.
