The desecration of the holy Guru Granth Sahib has left our Sikh brothers and sisters distraught, with violence in Punjab further aggravating the situation. Whilst little information is available about the situation, our message at NHSF (UK) is simple: such violence and hatred must stop and all should urge for a return to peace.
All Dharmic teachings, including those of Sikh and Hindu variation, are based on principles of peace, acceptance, inclusiveness and plurality. For millennia, we have been guided by the teachings of “Ekam Sat Vipraha Bahudha Vadanti” (truth is one, sages call it many things) and “Vasudeva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family). It is these principles that are now under threat and we must support our Sikh brothers and sisters to ensure that these principles are upheld.
Let us do what we can to support all those affected and ensure that justice is served to those who caused such disrespect to the entire Sikh community.
