NHSF are holding a Zonal retreat for each zone as a part of the
20th Anniversary celebrations.
It will be a weekend away where all of the committees and/or members will get a chance to integrate
and get to know each other a little better than you already do! This will hopefully be the first of many.
|
We are looking to do this weekend away in March and are keen to get the universities involved with
each phase of the retreat. This includes actually organising some of the activities for the weekend.
Activities that we have envisaged involve Sports, Yoga, Cooking, Sewa, Learning…and much more!
You will also get a chance to discuss, debate and consider all sorts... from current affairs and how they
affect British Hindu's to Hindu Jagruti.
Hindu Identity
- What does it mean to be a British Hindu
- Does one have to practice Hinduism to be a Hindu?
- What does it mean to be a Hindu in the UK - how has this changed over time?
- What influence have we had - has it been a positive one or a negative one?
- Muslims have Sharia Law, what do Hindus have? (Dharma shahtra, Manusmriti etc. - outdated?)
Hindu Dharma
- Matru devo bhava, pitru... Do we still live by these ideologies?
- What is the essence of our Dharma? - Stories of ram, pandavas, eklavya etc.
-
Our dharma teaches us to respect our elders/husbands/piers all the time, but should we respect
them even if they are rude, obnoxious, drug-users, alcoholics etc.?
- Hindu Dharma is really diverse - maybe too diverse? Should we pick and choose when we should follow it?
-
Individual vs. Parents - how much of a say should parents have in the decisions we make in our lives
(marriage, university etc). What is our duty to them? Arjuna - choices he had to make; fight vs. not fight.
Hindu Jagruti
-
Pictures of Hindu deities on toilet seats and bikinis - should we stop this? What effective
action could we take to stop it from happening? How do we get Hindus to have one voice on this.
- devise a strategy to combat these situations.
Unity
-
We have many different sects within Hinduism - swaminarayan, krishna consciousness, sai baba followers,
moraribapu followers - they are united within their own sampradhai's but not as a samaj - is this a
weakness or a strength?
